Golden Week. THE reason to move to Japan. Or rather, the reason to leave Japan once you ARE living here! Golden week is a whole string of national holidays ("Green Day", "Constitution Day", "National Holiday" and "Children's Day").
Whereas most of my fellow
Fukui JETs (quite sensibly) left the country, Tom and I decided to brave Japan
in order to experience more about the country. During Golden Week (or any
national holiday here, for that matter), all Japan goes crazy - packing their
bags and travelling round Japan. Tom and I did survive the experience, and
we did have a fantastic time, but I have to admit, next GW we're leaving the
country with all the other foreigners!
But what did we do? Well, we hopped in the little yellow plate, and drove and drove and drove. (We did also get out and do a bit of exploring!) We headed up into Ishikawa Prefecture (the next prefecture north from Fukui), and drove up the peninsular and back down again before spending a day in Kanazawa City. In all we drove just over 700km.
Take a look at the pics, and don't forget to check out the impromptu meal!
