August 2003

Ok, so not as many photos as I would have liked, and they're not great. Added to which, the photo of me is terrible! My excuse: it was the morning (or rather, afternoon) after the night before, during which I got more drunk than I've ever been before, and actually had to get transport from to the next club. It's all Adam's fault (although he swears it's mine...). But that's another story...(see photos for 30th August 2003).
The International Club arrange, on a regular basis, "culture days" for a particular country. The chosen country for August was China, and Chinese members of the IC brought in various bits and pieces, including books, Chinese tea, dresses, fans, etc, and also showed us how to make various types of Chinese food, including wonton (gyoza in Japanese). It was all really interesting, and I was really glad to have gone along. Let it be noted that all my ALT friends were still in bed, or taking it easy, after the night before!!!

International club members dress in traditional Chinese costume.
Yes, they did try and dress me in one, but I managed to persuade them the dress wouldn't fit (even the Japanese find them small!). They dressed me in a Chinese jacket, which was bursting at the seams! (Unfortunately, the only photo of this was taken on someone else's camera - so you'll have you use your imagination!) |

Um. Yes. That's me. I look even worse because it was a REALLY hot day. (I don't know if you can see the beads of perspiration...!)
Oh...I'm modeling a Chinese hair clip, by the way! |
