All of us teachers at Haruko were given the opportunity to make "Christmas" cake with the cookery club, if we wanted. It's not Christmas cake as you or I may imagine - it's not a rich fruit cake covered with icing. It's a 3-layer sponge with fruit and brandy cream. But it does have a Christmas tree on top, and a chocolate "Merry Xmas".
Rather annoyingly, I forgot to take my camera with me, both for the baking session, and the Grand Decorating session. I took some pics when I got home, though, so at least you can see how my cake turned out...
I had great fun making it, and had loads of help from the students! (Who
found my little critter on top very amusing and kawai - cute).
Everyone was being so serious about the decorating, and five or six students
gasped every time I picked up a bit of fruit, so I thought I'd try and lighten
them up a bit. This is the result...
