Man for those of you who think this is the group of people of the non-female persuasion, is actually Japanese for 10,000. The term is used as a shortened version of man-en - as in 10,000 yen. So now you know.
Towards the end of last year at one of the JET conferences, there was an auction, and a few of us (Teresa, Kara, Maribel and I) clubbed together to buy Ruan and his offer of some South African lovin' (i.e. wining and dining the South African way). It cost us a grand total of 10,000 yen (about £50) - the competition was high!
It was well worth every penny (yen), however. Mood lighting (although you can't tell in these photos), great food, and of course, Ruan's company ;)

Ruan serves up the food we had, in the words of the chef himself: "I made 'frikadelle', with rice, taters, sauce, salad and veggies" |
