So what's this all about then...? Well, at the ALT conference in October we had a charity auction (it's a bit of a tradition amongst JETs in Fukui). The man of the hour - Matt G - auctioned off his beard. And that's how it all got started...
The bidding went
through the roof, and competition was like nothing I've ever seen before.
People grouped together to pool their money in the hope of winning the lot, and
before long what seemed like the entire audience was split into two groups
manically bidding against each other. Things rapidly became out of
control. In the end it was decided that everyone be welcome to the
beard shaving, at a price.
A huge thank you all round to the organisers of the auction, to Lewis for the
use of his house, to Jon for coming up with the plan of campaign (complete with
artist's impressions), to everyone who attended and supported, and of course to
the man himself - our hero, who helped to raise a great deal of money for the
Asian Tsunami Appeal: Matt! (who, rumour has it, had never shaved
before...!)
(The auction has raised 221,000 yen so far, and I believe a high percentage of that was raised through this event).
