What a
random trip! We hadn't planned anything at all before we went and just
decided to play everything by ear. We hadn't even decided if we were going
to stay the night or not...
As it was, we stumbled across a rather muddy food fair in the snow (well, it is
spring, don't ya know), a very expensive but rather nice Irish pub selling
scotch whiskey and gourmet fish & chips, the craziest (and nicest) drunk
I've ever met...and a few manic photographers...
We had a really good weekend - a much needed trip to remind us just why we're in
Japan.

Snow... |

People milling about outside "Ninja-dera", the very funky 300-or-so-year-old temple with hidden levels, concealed escape routes, secret rooms, and more traps than you can shake a samurai sword at... |

Tengu. One very dodgy character. |

Us, with Sumiko-san - the crazy drunk.

In Japan, you learn to expect the unexpected... ...we saw this guy putting on the costume the day before, and he gave us a look which could only mean:
"I'm not getting paid enough for this." |

One of the many tour groups. Well...it is Japan. |

A good example of the rope-and-bamboo defences used to keep the branches up under the weight of the snow. |
