Luckily, Tom and I were about as safe from the Fukui Flooding as it is possible to be - up Mt Fuji.  But this was no joking matter, the situation in Fukui (although not as badly hit as Niigata) was bad.  I've never known anything like this - apparently in one day Fukui had as much rain as it usually gets during the entire rainy season.

Photos of the flood are courtesy of Rhen, who lives just upstairs.  Rhen was kind enough to keep us up to date on the situation while Tom and I were up The Mountain.  If I have time, I'll include some photos of how the neighbourhood usually looks!
