Sakura Gallery 2004

It is officially the time of year for the Japanese (and any of us Gaijin who feel the urge) to go slightly mad for a week about the prospect of millions of little pinky white flowers.

Yes folks, the sakura season is upon us!

"Sakura" is know to most of us as "Cherry Blossom", and the number of cherry trees planted in Japan simply for a few days enjoyment around this time of year is quite scary.

On the aptly named Sakura-dori near out house. This was taken next to the school where Delly practices Yosakoi Dancing.

A little further along Sakura-dori is the FIA (Fukui International Activities Plaza) where many festivals and conferences are held.

Looking along Sakura-dori towards EEC - where I work. When the weather is good the bike ride along Sakura-dori is very enjoyable.

Cherry trees along the side of a small river between our house
and the station.

While pottering back along a "shortcut" from Copa, I came across this little stream with some nice trees. I dumped the car and had a wander around.

Another view of the stream.

The beautiful avenue along one bank of the Asuwa river. Unfortunately the rest of the
photos I took here were blurred,
but expect some that will do it justice soon.

The castle in Fukui is home to the government offices for the region (some pretty ugly big buildings with a dirty great antenna on top) but the grounds surrounding them are impressive and quite beautiful at this time of year.

One of the bridges across the moat. The moat has some of the biggest Koi carp I have ever seen, the sort of size that could quite happily eat a small child for breakfast.

Trying to be arty-farty with this one... Feel free to take a moment of relaxed contemplation about life, the universe, or cheese.
